Brindleyplace is helping visitors who love cycling to get back in the saddle, onto the road and out on the canals by hosting a Dr Bike workshop.
Cycle Chain will provide FREE Dr Bike ‘health checks’ at ‘Carina’ narrowboat (behind BANK Restaurant in Brindleyplace and next to the National SEA LIFE Centre) on Saturday 19 December from 10am. Covid-19 prevention measures will be in place.
A Dr Bike check will deal with minor tyre, gear and brake repairs. Cycle Chain’s experienced mechanics will advise on a cost-effective course of action if a bike requires major work.
Half hourly time slots from 10am to 4pm will be allocated to 12 people, strictly on a first come, first served basis. You’ll need to wait until your allotted time for your Dr Bike check (the last appointment is at 4pm, and it may be booked first thing).
Other Dr Bike sessions will also be running throughout the New Year, so make sure you also pop the dates into the diary!

According to government walking and cycling statistics for 2018, more than 11% of adults cycle at least once a week. That equates to over 100,000 Brummies riding across the city every seven days.
An increasing number of Birmingham residents are making a bike their chosen form of transport, so Brindleyplace is actively supporting local sustainable transport and the cycling community by hosting Cycle Chain’s Dr Bike workshop, which is a Big Bike Revival project funded by Cycling UK .
Cycle Chain is a social enterprise committed to positive working with partners in education, cycling, and environmental sustainability. Its volunteers carry out repairs and sell quality recycled bikes at highly competitive prices. Hire bikes are also available.
Cycle Chain is based on the narrowboat ‘Carina’, which opens on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10am. It also runs a repairs and sales shop on Ledsam Street B16 (just off Ladywood Middleway), which opens on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10am – 3pm.
Cycle Chain plans to open to customers on additional days in the near future.
