Oozells Square is looking pretty in pink and on Sunday 24 March we will be celebrating our beautiful Brindley blossoms!
First up, in conjunction with Ikon Gallery, we will be holding a fun Family Art event in Oozells Square (weather permitting) where all age groups are encouraged to interpret the cherry blossoms through a range of printing techniques.
Celebrating its 60th year, Ikon invites families to create a unique screenprint in response to the vibrant springtime display of cherry blossom on our doorstep. Taking inspiration from the Japanese tradition of blossom-viewing festivals and picnics, participants choose a design and print a mini-poster in their choice of colours, to reflect the fleeting beauty and symbolism of the Sakura season. Suitable for all ages.
Next, from 3:00 – 4:00pm, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group will be holding their annual blossom concert also in Oozells Square. Enjoy tranquil music and relaxing sounds inspired by nature performed by three musicians on wind instruments including a very rare ‘aulos’, the world’s oldest oboe.
Finally, we will be continuing our association with the National Trust this year and are pleased to be able to offer everyone access to their Blossom Toolkit from 21st March. You will find all kinds of fun activities in the kit from storytelling to art projects and picnic ideas – it’s a really useful resource for everyone. Make sure to check back to get the link!
