Stop Food Waste Day 2024

Taking steps towards a sustainable future: Addressing food wastage and enhancing waste management.

As we head towards our goal of achieving carbon net zero by 2030, Brindleyplace remains steadfast in reducing our environmental footprint. Our estate proudly implements a range of initiatives aimed at curbing energy consumption and promoting sustainability.

24th April is global Stop Food Waste Day, and we are excited to share our latest endeavour: a focused initiative to tackle food waste and improve waste management practices.

In Birmingham, the issue of avoidable food waste is significant, with approximately 11,000 tonnes discarded annually in the hospitality and food service sector alone. Recognising the urgency of this issue, Brindleyplace is committed to playing its part in driving change.

At the heart of our strategy is the careful segregation and disposal of food waste, diverting it from landfills and incinerators. We have implemented clear plastic bags across the estate, transforming our waste management process. These transparent bags not only improve visibility but also streamline sorting, enabling efficient recycling and reducing our reliance on landfill.

For us, sustainable waste management is more than just a routine task; it’s a commitment to safeguarding our estate and planet for future generations. Our sustainable strategy is mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and combating air pollution, we actively contribute to environmental preservation.

We understand that meaningful change starts with individual action. That’s why we provide tailored training sessions and ongoing guidance to empower our community of occupiers. By fostering a culture of environmental consciousness, we enable each member to make a positive impact within and beyond our estate.

Brindleyplace takes pride in leading by example. Our pursuit of environmental excellence reflects our unwavering dedication to a sustainable future—one where every action, no matter how small, contributes to a healthier planet for generations to come.

Together, we can make a difference—one step, one bag of recycled waste at a time.
