To get you in the mood, let’s take a trip back in time to explore the origins of cocktails and World Cocktail Day.
Originating in the early 1800s in the United States, cocktails were initially concocted with spirits, sugar, water, and bitters, often regarded for their medicinal qualities. Fast forward to 1806, where a New York newspaper introduced the term “cock-tail” to describe this delightful blend, sparking a trend that would soon sweep across the world.
As cocktail culture flourished, so did the demand for skilled bartenders, who were heralded as revered figures within their communities. The concept of celebrating cocktails and the artistic tendencies behind them on a global scale emerged in the late 20th century. This lead to the establishment of World Cocktail Day on 13th May by the International Bartenders Association in 2006.
