Work is due to run from Sunday 10th September until Saturday 16th September.
From Sunday 10th September, there will be no vehicular access to Broad Street, including public transport, as repair work takes place on crossing points.
During the activity, buses will run on diverted routes and trams will terminate at Library tram stop only (with no service between Brindleyplace and Edgbaston Village stops for this short period).
Bus and tram users can find out more about journey planning during this time via their operator’s websites.
Works will be taking place both day and night in order to complete all activity as swiftly as possible. This will ensure that vehicular traffic can return to serving the area by Saturday 16 September.
Please see the FAQs below to find out more information:
What work will be being carried out?
The work will include resurfacing crossing points across various parts of Broad Street.
When will this work begin and what is the impact on the local area?
Work is scheduled to take place between Sunday 10 September and Saturday 16 September 2023 and during this time Broad Street will be closed to vehicular traffic.
In order to expedite works and minimise overall disruption ahead of planned events in the area including Freshers Week, construction is planned to take place during both day and night time hours.
Should you have any questions about this activity please email communications@metroalliance.co.uk.
I use public transport along Broad Street, how will my journey be affected?
West Midland Metro services will continue to serve Birmingham city centre throughout, to Library tram stop. For more information on timetable and alternative journey planning, please visit www.westmidlandsmetro.com.
Buses which usually travel along or stop on Broad Street will be using diverted routes for the brief time the finishing works are taking place. Bus users are recommended to check with their operator for further details and allow extra time for their journey.
Can I still access Broad Street on foot?
Pedestrian access during construction will be maintained. Please be aware that crossing points will be changed at times as works progress.
Will the works be noisy?
Although every effort is made to minimise disruption, some of the activities will involve an element of noise as the team will begin by excavating localised areas across Broad Street.
The team will utilise noise mitigation measures, including noise monitoring equipment and noise reduction barriers, as required.
How will this impact my business?
Part of the works will mean the unavoidable relocation of a nearby loading bay and taxi provision from Broad Street; however, mitigations will be in place to ensure deliveries continue without interruption.
