This morning saw the planting of two new replacement Cherry Blossom trees in Oozells Square.
The two mature trees, known as the ‘East Asian Cherry’ and ‘Pink Perfection’, have been grown in a warm climate specifically for Brindleyplace over the past 18 months. These types of trees are common across Korea, China & Japan, but less popular in the UK – so we’re lucky to have them in Brindleyplace! We expect the trees to mature fully in size within the next 2/3 years in this environment (and apparently they should blossom this year)!
The benefits of tree planting for our environment are well-documented and at Brindleyplace we’re extremely proud of our on-going commitment not only to the environment, but also to playing our part in making the entire Estate more sustainable and to improving the ESG credentials for everyone who works and spends time here.
We look forward to the new additions quickly becoming part of the much-loved blossoms in Oozells Square!
Cherry blossoms have numerous benefits for ecosystems and environments especially within a city – they lessen the harmful effects of air pollution and attract insects, specifically bees.
Laura Clayton, Wellbeing Consultant at Brindleyplace says, “Spending time in green space or bringing nature into your everyday life can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing and we love the points raised in this short film from the National Trust about the benefits of ‘Bringing Blossom to Birmingham’”.
As well as the cherry blossoms in Oozells Square, the rooftop of 3 Brindleyplace has been home to more than 80,000 honeybees since 2017 and numerous ‘bug hotels’ are dotted around Central Square and other parts of the Estate.
