How self care can help everyone fight back

With the Covid 19 pandemic causing both social and economic upheaval around the world, the need for self-care and communal healing amidst a time of uncertainty should be a priority for everyone.

Many of us will have felt the strain and demands of either working from home or being furloughed. At Brindleyplace we want to play our part in the healing process and help people find peace with what is happening, and that’s why we are launching a digital-led programme of events to mark Global Wellbeing Week.

Promoting wellbeing week is also a good move for occupiers and Brindleyplace as a business community at the heart of the city. Everyone who works across the estate can access and benefit from a range of activities throughout the year.

With high quality public realm, access to the city’s canal network and facilities like Bannatyne’s on site, Brindleyplace has always been a location than enables good practice in health and wellbeing to take place.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that mental illness affects one in four people across the world – that could be a quarter of the Brindley working population and therefore 2,500 out of the 10,000 people who work here.

WHO also expects this number to rise during the current time of economic and social uncertainty. For businesses big or small, it is important to safeguard staff and promote activity that supports a healthier, and therefore more productive, workforce.

And by contributing to a worldwide phenomenon, we also hope to help connect everyone who takes part to others around the world taking part in the same kinds of activities.

As well as practical exercise classes we will also be running a series of seminars and talks about topics such as stress management and sleep hygiene. There will also be an online bootcamp, pilates and yoga classes. The dozen events are all free and open to all online.

The programme will run from Monday 22 to Friday 26 June at various times during the day and into the evening. To view the full programme of activities, visit www.brindleyplace.com/whats-on
