Climate Change Festival
On 31st May 2008, Birmingham launched its first Climate Change Festival. Events kicked off with a formal launch at the Council House with a variety of events then running across the City for nine days.
Events at Brindleyplace included a Masterclass on the Science behind Climate Change led by the University of Birmingham and a number of seminars hosted by The Carbon Trust, Be Birmingham and Envirowise. These were very well received by a wide audience including Brindleyplace business tenants, students and members of the general public. Birmingham’s Cutting CO2 pledge point was present on Central Square for the week and were joined later in the week by WhizzGo, who offer a low carbon emissions car rental scheme.
On Thursday 5th June, Brindleyplace hosted Birmingham’s Targets Launch at which guest speaker Dame Ellen MacArthur spoke passionately about the need for everyone to play their part in the reduction of carbon emissions to help Birmingham achieve its target of 60% reduction by 2026.
Fiona Loveland, Operations and Environmental Manager for Brindleyplace said “This has been an exciting week and anexcellent example of companies working together to deliver a positive message on Climate Change. I looking forward to working with Brindleyplace tenants, the City Council and CABE, the festival organizers to ensure that this is only the first of many similar events in the future”.
