This is not a Story

A permenant exhibition by Turner Prize winner Richard Deacon has now been imbedded in the walk way from Central Square up to Oozells Square.

Ikon Gallery has introduced "This is not a Story" to the Estate, which is a piece of work that implies the absence of any particular meaning or narrative.  100 bricks made of resin and plastic and soap-like in appearance, will be embedded into the ground near to Costa Coffee in Central Square, effectively being incorporated into the fabric of Brindleyplace.

Anna Pike, Ikon Gallery, said: "This exhibition is part of Ikon's offsite programme which aims to show that art  can be shown anywhere; an assertion that art engages directly with the city, emerging unexpectedly in people's everyday lives and routines.

This is not a story will add to the existing features which make this an area of increased cultural interest.  The colourful bricks, while an artwork will, morph into the environment, engaging people on an everyday level as they walk over them.".
