Spring Labour Conference

29 February 2008 is a red letter date for Birmingham, as the city welcomes the Labour Party Spring Conference for the first time.  The conference runs from 29 February - 2 March and up to 4,000 delegates are expected to attend.

The conference is the Labour Party's first major gathering of the year and discussion topics will include local government, women's conferences and European issues.  There will also be ethnic minority and diversity events throughout the weekend.

Bringing an event of this size and stature to the city means that a comprehensive plan of activity to welcome and assist with managing the event is in place, with as little disruption to residents, businesses and visitors as possible, but there are some temporary changes to be aware of.

As the conference is being held at The ICC, the area around this building, including Centenary Square, The Hyatt and the last block of Broad Street up to Paradise Forum will see some changes to access for both pedestrians and traffic.

The ICC will not be accessible from approximately 6am on 28 February until 6pm on 2 March and the bridge from Brindleyplace Waters' Edge to The ICC will have one way access only during the conference through a turnstile system which will be manned by police 24 hours a day.  See visitbirmingham.com for further details.
