Sell out success for Number Nine

After doing a short story on BBC Midlands Today a few weeks ago, Frank Sidney Smith arrived by limo at the Buttermarket in Brindleyplace on Friday 1 February to launch his first ever show at the age of 80.

By Friday afternoon the phone was non-stop with people ringing to come to the show, having seen the lunch time Midlands Today news. So with stuffed rabbit at hand and a trusty camera, Frank told his story... little did anyone know what would happen....

Saturday came and at 11 am there was a queue of people wanting to see the show.  Within 10 minutes all the works were sold and the posters which are signed were flying out the gallery; Frank had chosen a charity for the proceeds of the poster sales.

Not since Mo Mowlam hosted her husband Jon Norton's exhibition has the gallery had a sell out show at number nine.  Not only did they sell out, but did so within 15 minutes (all 36 original oils!!)

"The gallery has been packed and the phone has not stopped ringing!  We could have sold the show 10 times over as the public's response to Frank's lovely work and touching tale as shown on BBC Midlands Today on Friday 1February, has been overwhelming to say the
least” said Lee Benson, owner of Number Nine the Gallery.

The show runs until February 28 and another exhibition is planned for later in the year, please contact the gallery for more information on 0121 643 9099.
