Waste Management and Recycling

In July 2004 Brindleyplace launched its new waste management and recycling schedule with emphasis on efficiency and recycling. At that time a baler was installed in order to produce cardboard bales to be sold on and recycled. Glass recycling was also targetted. These initiatives have resulted in approximately 30% of on site waste being recycled. Adopting this approach to waste management and recycling has delivered the additional benefit ofsupporting Brindleyplace's commitment to the reduction of carbon emissions. Through a more consolidated approach to waste collections we have reduced the number of waste collection vehicles on site by over 2,500 per annum.

In September 2007 this service was extended to including the recycling of paper, plastic, newspaper and aluminum cans and these additions to the scheme have been well received by our tenants.

Aspirations for the future include increasing recycling percentages up to 85% of total waste by the end of 2009 and to continue to maximize returns from recycling through the sale of recycled materials. This will also ensure that the scheme remains financially competitive at a time that landfill costs continue to escalate.
