All Bar One Reaps Benefits of Early Smoking Ban

The pioneering decision by All Bar One in Brindleyplace to go smoke-free has paid off with the pub reporting a 40 per cent increase in takings compared to last year.

And it’s not just the accountants who are happy; the customers are delighted with the smokeless environment, giving 100 per cent positive feedback since it made the change.

The smoking ban at All Bar One in The Water’s Edge is one of a series of initiatives at Brindleyplace to help people who work and visit the Estate quit smoking ahead of the national ban in enclosed public buildings on 1 July.

As part of the no smoking drive, Bannatyne’s Health Club is also offering advice and support at free smoking cessation clinics organised by the NHS, as well as supplementary replacement therapies such as patches and inhalers for the price of a single prescription.

Amy Taffe, bar manager at the newly refurbished All Bar One, said the increased turnover and positive customer reaction had backed the company’s decision to go smoke-free three months before the ban came into force.

She said: “Since we made All Bar One a smoke-free zone, our takings on food have gone up by 40 per cent, and our general takings by 30 per cent. Of course, the unusually fine weather for this time of year has helped, but we are confident the smoking ban has made a big difference.

“Our staff are happier to be working in a smog-free environment, and our customers are pleased that they can now enjoy our delicious meals without the taste being spoilt by second-hand smoke.”

Brindleyplace’s tenants have been consulted on the future of smoking on the Estate, and shelters for smokers are now being considered.
