Work began in September 1993 on The Water's Edge - 60,000 square feet of retail (shopping) and catering facilities located on the canalside, directly opposite the International Convention Centre (ICC).
The Water's Edge officially opened for trade in September 1994.
The Water's Edge is busy all day, especially after a concert or when a sporting event is held locally.
Experts say that up to 2 million people could visit The Water's Edge each year, spending up to £13.9 million.
