Tea and TV Stars!

The Local Produce Market at Brindleyplace welcomes two exciting new additions at the second summer market on Friday 29th July.

Penny Zako, who appeared on the popular ITV show ‘Britain’s Best Dish 2011’ will be cooking up a storm (hopefully just metaphorically!) from 12.30pm this Friday to demonstrate how to get the most from local produce. Penny, who went on to win Midlands Best Starter 2011 with her Pea Veloute and marinated Ham Hock is a passionate supporter of British Food Producers. She will be cooking a variety of dishes at the market and will be on hand to answer questions and give advice.

The second celebrity appearance on Friday, back due to popular demand is Little Urn, Yorkshire Tea’s tea-mobile! During his time in the US bringing Brits abroad a proper brew, Little Urn received numerous requests to return home and his Facebook fans chose Brindleyplace as one of his stop-overs. So now he’s back and ready to catch-up on his domestic duties! He will be serving up free cups of tea at the market in Brindleyplace from 11am.

The Local Produce Market at Brindleyplace attracts a wide range of local producers giving customers a fantastic choice of food and drink from fresh fruit and vegetables to delicious cakes and pastries. The markets are held between 10am-3pm on the last Friday of every month through to September at Brindleyplace’s Central Square.

Russell Dean of market operator Sketts added: “Whilst we offer a variety of produce we’re always open to suggestions for additional produce and keen to attract new local traders who would like to try a new location. We would also urge people to support the markets even in the wet weather that our British Summer will inevitably throw at us!“

Ping Pong Fever Hits Brindleyplace

This summer, 55 ping-pong tables will pop up across Birmingham’s landmarks, squares, shopping centres, estates, offices and train stations including two in Brindleyplace – one in Central Square and one in Oozells Square. Marked ‘Stop and Play’, the tables are up for four weeks for all to enjoy, for free and are accompanied by a schedule of events and activities. Bats and balls are supplied; just borrow a bat from the side of the table to join in!

Ping! is created by Sing London, the participatory arts organisation and is delivered in partnership with ETTA (English Table Tennis Association). Ping! is supported by National Lottery investment from Sport England, as part of its work to deliver a mass participation legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Further support this year comes from sponsors Puma, a company who love ping-pong.

Meera Sodha, Ping! Project Manager says “Putting a ping pong table on the street gives people a chance to connect with other people and the city around them – suddenly everyone is talking, playing, smiling and having fun – it generates an enormous sense of well being. Last year’s event in London saw over 50,000 people play ping-pong and we are hoping that the people of Birmingham will enjoy it just as much”

Richard Yule, ETTA’s Chief Executive, said: “After the overwhelming success of Ping London, it is exciting to see the project return for a second year as it ventures north to “Ping” the great cities of Birmingham and Hull. Table tennis can help break down barriers, bring communities together and put a smile on people’s faces, so I encourage everyone to get playing and take full advantage of the free tables popping up in a location near you this summer.”

Fantastic Four

Hines Global REIT and Moorfield Group (Moorfield) have released a second office opportunity to the market at Brindleyplace.

Up to 20,000 square feet of newly refurbished office space is being marketed within Four Brindleyplace, which provides a total of 114,000 square feet of prime accommodation, with current occupiers including Deloitte and Michael Page.

The contemporary Grade A property is situated at the heart of Brindleyplace overlooking Central Square and is one of just seven commercial office buildings in the UK to have been named Best of the Best at the British Council for Offices’ annual awards. The available fourth-floor suite benefits from floor-to-ceiling glazing, plus the flexibility for an occupier to divide the open-plan space as required.

Igor Mathias of Hines commented: “This latest office opportunity provides potential occupiers with the opportunity to relocate their business to an exceptional property located within the award-winning Brindleyplace estate. Existing occupiers here benefit from a vibrant business and leisure community coupled with the support of a dedicated on-site management team. The investment which we have made into this suite demonstrates to both existing and potential occupiers our committed asset management strategy and ambitions for Brindleyplace’s future.”

Jeremy Marchant of Moorfield added: “Since our acquisition of eight properties on the estate last year, we have focussed strongly on forging long-term relationships with existing tenants. We are absolutely committed to providing the very highest level of customer-focused, long-term asset management at Brindleyplace, and we are also dedicated to ensuring we present tenants with office space that meets the requirements of modern businesses.”
