Get Fit and Fab for February in Brindleyplace

675x250-running

According to the Guardian 78 per cent of us will break our New Year resolutions.  As we enter February, we thought we’d provide some useful advice to those who don’t want to break their resolutions to get fit and stay healthy in 2010.

Dieting isn’t always fun but in Brindleyplace we believe you can get fit and eat well without having to survive on bread and rice cakes.  So here’s my top tip for feeling fabulous in February….

1. Join a gym class.  Working out with other people is far easier than going it alone.  Pop down to Bannatyne’s and check out their gym class timetable.   With workout session scheduled before and after work as well as at lunchtime, there’s sure to be a slot that suits you.

If you don’t want to commit to a gym membership why not put on your running shoes and hit the canal towpath for an invigorating run, jog or power walk!

2. Eat well.  While dieting and healthy eating is top of many people’s New Year resolutions, failing to eat regularly won’t help shift those unwanted pounds.  Boots, Eat, Baguette du Monde and many of the restaurants in Birmingham’s Brindleyplace provide low fat options, so a shop bought treat or occasional meal out needn’t mean slipping into unhealthy ways.

3. Keep mobile.  Sitting at a desk all day isn’t good for your fitness levels or posture.  Make an effort to get up every hour and stretch your legs and try and leave your office at lunchtime.  Take a stroll along the canal, around the latest exhibitions at Ikon or Number Nine the Gallery or across to your favourite sandwich shop.  Anything that gets your heart rate up is a bonus – even taking the stairs instead of the lift up to your office will give you a boost!
