Santa Run Success
December 8, 2009 |
Saturday 5th December saw a record number of 433 “Santas” running around a snow-covered Brindleyplace and a friendly NIA route to help raise vital funds and awareness for Acorns Children’s Hospice.
Supported by Smooth Radio, and featuring popular Drivetime presenter Tammy Gooding – the Acorns “Santas on the Run” returned for the third year running to Brindleyplace.
Birmingham’s insurance team at Legal & General were lead sponsors of this year’s event, and joined many other corporate teams on the day including Frank Haslam Milan and Pearl Group, to wear Santa outfits, hats and beards and run the 3km friendly course around Brindleyplace and the NIA.
A snow machine, supplied by Smooth Radio, helped transform the event into a Christmas spectacular, whilst Christmas songs and music got everyone into the festive spirit.
147 Aston Villa Football Club fans signed up for ‘Race 1’ at 11am, and kept their Santa Suits on as they enjoyed the Hull game at Villa Park later that day.
Kerrie Davies, Events Manager at Acorns, said: “Saturday was an amazing day. With 433 Santas at our ‘Santas on the Run’ event, it was a record for Acorns! We hope the event has raised over £20,000 – to help us care and support local children and young people who have life limiting or life threatening illnesses, and their families. From local corporate teams to Aston Villa fans, and participants young and old – they all enjoyed the warm-up before their races, and the snow machine made it really festive. Lots of people supported the occasion, entering into the spirit of Christmas and helping to raise vital funds and awareness for Acorns, and we are so grateful to all the volunteers who came to marshal and support the event.”
